Dress Code
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Wearing the school uniform identifies a student as a member of the Bishop Kearney High School Community. Therefore, the school uniform must be worn respectfully, neatly and completely, with the pride and dignity that reflects Kearney’s reputation of excellence in education and character formation.
Upon arrival in the building, students are responsible to immediately change into full uniform and remain that way until 2:29 PM. The school uniform consists of:
1. Uniform Skirt: Skirts must be worn unrolled and unaltered, at an appropriate length (3-4 inches above the knee). Anyone who had her skirt altered will be required to purchase a new one and wear it appropriately.
 
2. Uniform Slacks: Uniform slacks with the Bishop Kearney monogram may be worn in place of the uniform skirt. Slacks must be worn properly/(buttoned and zipped) and be the correct length, properly hemmed.

                            Juniors and Seniors GRAY SLACKS
Sophomore and Senior slacks have the BK monogram on the waistband.
Freshman and Junior slacks have the BK monogram on the pocket.
 
3. Uniform Shirt: All students will wear only a “knit bottom-banded golf shirt” with the Kearney monogram.

                              Sophomores Light Blue
                              Juniors Black
                              Seniors Maroon
ALL STUDENTS MAY WEAR A WHITE CAMISOLE OR WHITE TANK TOP SHIRT UNDER THEIR SHIRT TUCKED INTO THEIR UNIFORM SKIRT OR SLACKS AND NOT VISIBLE. NO TEE SHIRTS, INCLUDING THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEE SHIRT MAY BE WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM SHIRT.
 
4. Physical Education Attire: All students must wear their Physical Education uniform shorts under their uniforms on days they have Physical Education. No physical education t-shirts may be worn under uniform shirt.
 
5. I D cards on lanyards must be worn outside the uniform sweater/shirt and must be visible at all times. The ID/lanyard must be worn on non-uniform days.
 
6. Leg wear:
Juniors and Seniors must wear gray/black opaque tights.
Freshmen and Sophomores must wear navy blue/black opaque tights.
No sheer or patterned tights or pantyhose may be worn.
September 3 through September 26 students may wear knee socks.
Spring knee sock day will be announced during the second semester.

7. Uniform sweater: All students may wear a Bishop Kearney
uniform sweater over their shirt and skirt/slacks.
Freshmen will wear the NAVY BLUE SWEATER.
Sophomores will wear the NAVY BLUE SWEATER.
Juniors will wear the GREY SWEATER
Seniors will wear the GREY SWEATER.
Seniors may substitute the Senior fleece in place of the uniform sweater.
These items are the only garments permitted to be worn in school over the uniform shirt. There will be official school functions when the uniform sweater is MANDATORY.
 
8. Uniform shoe: Students will wear the BISHOP KEARNEY MOC SHOE FROM MONEYSAVERS SHOES.
Seniors ONLY have a uniform sneaker Privilege.
If a medical condition warrants wearing special footwear, the following procedure must be adhered to:
 
a. A doctor’s note must be provided to document the need for a special shoe, either temporarily or permanently. This note is to be on file in the nurse’s office.
 
b. A pass is issued by the NURSE’S Office and must be renewed according to the school nurse’s directives.
 
c. Only solid black sneakers may be worn when required by chronic foot problems.
 
9. NO HEADWEAR IS PERMITTED EXCEPT A HEAD BAND.
 
10. Students are permitted to wear pierced jewelry in their ears only.
STUDENTS WHO COME TO SCHOOL WITH ANY OTHER PIERCINGS WILL BE SUSPENDED AND NOT PERMITTED TO RETURN TO SCHOOL UNTIL THE PIERCING JEWELRY IS REMOVED.
 
11. Non-conventional styles and/or fads (INCLUDING HAIR COLOR) are inappropriate and will be addressed by the Year Dean.
 
Uniforms will be checked every morning in homeroom. Students not in complete uniform will receive a Uniform Referral. If a student is out of uniform for any serious reason, she must bring a note from home explaining the situation and be dressed appropriately for school. All uniform matters will be handled by the Deans.
