Varsity loses 2-3 vs. McClancy HS
The Varsity semifinal playoff match went down as one of the most exciting in recent memory. Buckle up your seat belts; the recap will be a roller coaster ride. Kearney started out Set 1 with superior serving and fine overall play to beat the Crusaders 25-18. Captains Carolyn Donohue and Kaitlyn Intindola led the way. Then things got bumpy. McClancy nosed out BK 25-22 in Set 2 and dominated Set 3 with strong hitting for a 25-12 win. The Tigers dug deep and started digging the strong Crusader hits. Emily, Alexia, Page and Karina all patrolled the back line and would not let anything fall in. Nicole Abbate went on a serving streak and Kearney prevailed in overtime 26-24, setting up a deciding 5th set. The points in Set 5 were long and tense and only at the end did McClancy pull away for a 25-19 win. The Tigers may have lost the match but they showed the grit and determination that symbolized their squad all season long. Winners, through and through. Go, Tigers!
