Scholarships and Financial Aid

Families of incoming freshmen who are interested in financial aid are encouraged to set up a meeting with the Admissions Department to discuss all available options. Call 718-236-6363 x255 or email admissions@kearneyhs.org to schedule an appointment. 

Financial Aid:

Bishop Kearney offers financial aid to low income families. To be eligible to apply for financial aid, students must have an average of 80 or higher with no grades falling below a 75. Students must reapply for financial aid every year.  The priority deadline for incoming students is November 19, 2018.  The final deadline for the 2019-2020 school year is February 1, 2019.  Applications filed after the February 1, 2019 deadline will not be accepted.

Academic Scholarships

8th grade students who are interested in academic scholarships at Bishop Kearney for the Class of 2023 must take the Scholarship Exam on Saturday, November 17, 2018.  Click here to learn more.

Fine Arts Scholarship:

Fine Arts Scholarships are available in studio art, vocal music and instrumental music.  Applications open in September. Applications due no later than Monday, November 26th 2018.  Click here to learn more.  Please email admissions@kearneyhs.org with any questions.

9/11 Memorial Scholarship

The Lay Faculty Association Local 1261 created the 9/11 Memorial Scholarship in honor of Captain Walter Hynes, Captain Timothy Stackpole and Firefighter Joseph Henry. Recipients will be required to do extra community service. Incoming freshmen can apply using the application below.

The application period for the 9/11 Memorial Scholarship ends on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. 

Brian Moore Scholarship

Bishop Kearney established a scholarship in honor of NYPD Detective 1st Grade Brian Moore. Detective Moore was killed in 2015 while working undercover in Queens. He was 25 years old. Irene Christensen Moore, Brian's mother, is a member of the Bishop Kearney class of '76. Her classmates approached the administration with their desire to honor their classmate's son. They have been working tirelessly to raise funds for this cause.

To apply: Take the Scholarship Exam and complete the Brian Moore application. Families must complete the financial aid application. The application is available below. Incoming Freshmen Only.

Rosalie Hilger Scholarship

The Hilger Family Trust established the scholarship in honor of Ernest Hilger's beloved wife of 45 years, Rosalie. She was known for her wisdom, contagious laughter, and her positive energy. This scholarship recognizes that there is more to success than a high GPA and that students who are not at the top of their class academically also deserve the opportunity for success. Recipients will be required to do additional community service. Incoming freshmen and transfer students can apply using the application below.

Rosanne Lang Scholarship (Alumnae Scholarship)

The Alumnae Scholarship was established in 1998 to provide financial assistance to daughters of alumnae who were not able to afford a Kearney education. Rosanne Lang was one of the Kearney grads who died on September 11th. All 8th grade students with family members who have graduated from Kearney are encouraged to apply using the application below. Priority will be given to daughters of Alumnae. Incoming students can using the application below.

Outside Scholarships:

The following websites offer outside scholarships, financial aid services, and sponsors who offer assistance. Please note that Bishop Kearney is not directly affiliated with any of these websites. There are many other websites in the Internet and students are encouraged to do a thorough search. It is recommended that you search by your parents' occupation (example: FDNY & NYPD, healthcare, Department of Saniation, etc.), race, religion, and ethnicity/country of origin. Scholarships are also listed under the term Vouchers. Please carefully review the eligibility requirements as some sites mix high school and college scholarships together. 

First, we recommend that families review this informational website on financing a  private school education.

  • Columbus Citizen Foundation Over a million dollars has been given to Bishop Kearney students from Columbus Citizen Foundation. Students who are of Italian descent with a GPA of 3.0 (85% or B) or higher who are from households where the total gross income does not exceed $20,000 per capita are eligible. Only 8th graders who will enter high school as a freshmen in the Fall are eligible to apply.
  • Student Sponsor Partners Bishop Kearney is an SSP Partner School. Students who come from low income families and are academically average to below average are eligible and are encouraged to apply.
