BISHOP KEARNEY ANNOUNCES SECOND RECIPIENT OF BRIAN MOORE SCHOLARSHIP

Bishop Kearney High School is pleased to announce Vanessa Sexton as the second recipient of the Brian Moore Scholarship.

Bishop Kearney established the scholarship in 2016 in honor of NYPD Detective 1st Grade Brian Moore.  Detective Moore was killed in 2015 while working undercover in Queens.  Irene Christensen Moore, Brian’s mother, is a member of the Bishop Kearney class of 1976.

Vanessa was five years of age when her father, P.O. Samuel Sexton, 79th Precinct, died. According to Vanessa, “The love and care my father displayed to others, generated a passion to overcome adversity and help others. During my high school years,  I would like to be involved with helping the less fortunate youths in the community as a way of continuing my father’s legacy.”

In addition to her father, Vanessa counts her grandfather (deceased) and cousin as members of NYPD.

This scholarship is awarded each year to an incoming freshman.
