On Wednesday, March 14th, Bishop Kearney took part in the nationwide school walkout. The day began with a prayer service in the gym to remember the 17 victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting as well as their family and friends. Our students stood in a large circle where each victim’s name was read aloud and a candle was lit in their memory. The entire school then said a prayer for solidarity. When the prayer service ended, the students, faculty and staff walked out of the school and around the block as part of the nation wide demonstration #Enough! National School Walkout to raise awareness about issues of school safety and press lawmakers to pass stricter gun control laws. The walk represented a symbol of our unity which is part of the Mission of Sisters of St. Joseph.
