On Thursday, May 3rd, members of Kearney’s TV Station WBKS visited Fox 5 NY to see behind the scenes of Good Day New York. During the show, students were able to see the control room and studio in action. During the commercials, the students were able to meet the show's guests, actor Ron Livingston and singer Melba Moore.
After the show, Rosanna Scotto and Lori Stokes graciously took time to talk with the students. They showed a real interest in what the students do in their own studio and Broadcast Journalism class at Bishop Kearney, as well as their future aspirations. The students were proud to talk about WBKS but were thrilled to hear stories and career advice from the news anchors.
For the first time, the students were also given the opportunity to use the chroma key wall at Fox 5 and report the weather with instruction from meteorologist Samantha Augeri.
Donna Pisciotto, Director of Production, has worked with Bishop Kearney since 21st Century Fox donated over $100,000 worth of equipment and training in 2015. She helped design the Bishop Kearney studio to mimic the Fox 5 Control Room and Studio but on a smaller scale. During the trip, Ms. Pisciotto instructed the students on lighting, hair and makeup artistry, audio, and robotic cameras. She also gave advice to the students who want to work in the industry.
This real-world exposure and experience continues to be a foundational and priceless experience for WBKS students. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible.
