This school year the Bishop Kearney community will embark on a school-wide project-based learning initiative, with a focus on South Africa.
Since the start of school, the Bishop Kearney faculty has gathered three times for project-based learning “design days.” These design days, facilitated by Rosalie Reyes and Christian Talbot from Basecamp School, have enabled Kearney teachers to create leading-edge, rigorous learning experiences that connect Kearney’s motto, “Cherish Justice,” with Sacred Heart College, a K-12 Catholic school in Johannesburg. To bring additional authenticity to the project-based learning experiences, the Kearney faculty held a Google Hangout with Sacred Heart’s Head of College, Colin Northmore.
Kearney students also videoconferenced with Sacred Heart College student council members. The conversation focused on Sacred Heart’s Three2Six program, which educates refugee children in Johannesburg.
Bishop Kearney’s South Africa project-based learning initiative will launch November 1.
